What is something you enjoy about the St. John’s/Scotia Heights/Luxton/North End/Point Douglas neighbourhood?

A few years ago, I lived in the block of Bannerman where Bannerman Green will be built. When my partner Steven and I purchased our first home, we moved just across Main Street into the St. John’s neighbourhood. What we love about the North End as a whole is the people. The community is home to so many amazing organizations, activists, artists and people advocating for a better world and looking out for their neighbours.

Why are you a member of Bannerman Green?

As an urban planner and housing researcher, I know how important it is to nurture innovative housing models which respond to needs identified by the community. I also work for a local environmental non-profit, and recognize how important it is for all of us to consider how we can live more sustainably. I think Bannerman Green Housing Co-op is an exciting initiative which integrates climate concerns and housing needs, while also responding to the specific accessibility needs of certain demographic such as my older neighbours who would like to remain in the community as they age.

If you plan/want to live at Bannerman Green, what are you most looking forward to?

N/A

What is your favourite band or musician?

I am a huge fan of everything that has grown out of the genre of reggae, from classic groups like Toots and the Maytals, to the modern dancehall and drum and bass genres. In 2015, I met Capleton and Damian Marley at a community concert in the famous Trenchtown neighbourhood of Kingston, Jamaica.

Have you started any new hobbies during COVID19?

I tried to take up cross country skiing again this year, but there wasn’t much snow!

What is your favourite season?

I love them all. Although I would say I love summer the most, I could not live without the variety and freshness that each change of the seasons brings!

What is a TV show that you loved to watch as a kid or teenager?

I loved older sitcoms when I was a kid: I Love Lucy, Three’s Company, I Dream of Jeannie, and British ones like Keeping up Appearances and Are you Being Served?

Would you rather wear only one colour each day, or have to wear 7 colours each day?

I love colour.

Would you rather host a large gathering, or attend a large gathering at someone else’s house?

I like both. I love to host, but I wouldn’t want to be the host everytime!

Is there anything else you want to share about yourself/selves to the other members of Bannerman Green? Work? Family? Pets?

We have two cats – Frank and Pablo, and two dogs – Greta and Viðir. They (and we) enjoy spending time at our cottage in Gimli.
